Master Photographer – Photographic Craftsman;
professional studio photographer since 1980.
With over 50,000 photography sessions in my career, I have been creating memories and satisfied clients for over 30-years!
In May 1997, I formed the getDigital Training Center, a subsidiary of Billings Photography, Omaha, Nebraska. Photographers from all over the world attended a week long seminar on transitioning their portrait studio into the digital world. Kodak has stated that “Rick Billings is one of the photographic industry’s foremost authorities on digital imaging.” Since 1995, I have been a member of a select group of professional photographers who serve on Kodak’s Digital Professional Photography Mentor Team. Over the past 15 years, I have spoke and lectured in over thirty-five states on behalf of industry trade associations and companies such as Eastman Kodak, Art Leather Albums and Canon USA. In 2003, Canon selected 11 photographers throughout the United States to be featured on a CD about “Digital Workflow” and I was one of those 11 photographers. Canon has distributed a quarter million of these digital workflow CD’s in our profession.
Rick has been a contributor to many publications and books like Katrin Eismann’s May 2003 release of “Portrait Retouching with Photoshop 7”. Rick’s images and techniques are shown in Figure 9.1 to 9.8, 9.5.2 to 9.6.1 and 9.84 to 9.85.
My highly regarded position in the field of digital photography, was evident in the fall of 2000 at the United Nations Millennium Summit. I was asked by Kodak to digitally photograph 189 heads of state of UN member countries including President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister, Tony Blair. A digital image was transmitted electronically within minutes after the shoot to news organizations throughout the world. The group photo appeared in full color on the front page of the New York Times the next morning.

Alec Billings has joined the staff at Billings Photography & Design. Alec bring many new ideas to our business. I look forward to working with him as I monitor his development in the photography industry.
